gBook new features: photo detail and notifications
Two new features have been released today on gBook: the photo detail page and the notifications page.
Photo detail
You access the photo detail when clicking on a thumbnail on the “Photos” page, on the notification page or on the album page (yet to be released).
The photo deatil opens in a popup window; I know they are not that popular nowadays and I don’t really like them too, but the available gadget width in Gmail is 160px, way too little to display a 500px large image.
The photo detail allows you to:
- See the image in big size
- See title, caption, time it was posted
- See people tagged in the picture (if any)
- See comments (if any)
- Add your comment (if image owner allows you to)
- Delete your comments on the picture, or delete any comment if the picture is yours
Notifications
The “Notifications” label on the top of the gadget, shows the number of new unread notifications (if any). In order to optimize performances, new notifications are checked every 10 minutes, not in real time. This might change in the future.
Accessing the notification list will reset the new notification number.
Bugs fixed
Thanks to your feedback, I found and solved some bugs on status and inbox pages. If your default FB language was not English, those pages screwed up. It is obvious that the user can set whichever language he prefers on his FB account and the gadget should be (and now is) FB language independent.
Issues
From a couple of days it happens during the days that the gadget slow down quite a lot. It appears not to be related with traffic, because it does it with 10 concurrent requests but also with one. I’m investigating this with my hosting provider, the gadget is hosted on a shared server so heavy traffic on another website hosted on the same server could slow down gBook.
